Unani Therapy for AIDS Treatment

Unani Therapy for AIDS Treatment, Treatment of Aids in Unani

INTRODUCTION

An ancient Graeco-Arab system of medicine, not much is known about Unani efforts in developing an AIDS cure. Clinical trials of nigella sativa are, however, on amongst Unani medical researchers in Florida. They say the herb is effective in boosting the immune function and should help in the search for an AIDS antidote.

Traditional systems of medicine are no doubt prevalent in various countries of the world, but most of these are empirical. On the other hand, unani and its allied branches have rational and scientific basic principles. It is distinct from other branches of medicine, as the drugs it uses are natural in their sources and forms. It emphasizes on retaining natural compounds which belong to the human body, and hence prescribes only natural remedies. Unani medicine believes that diseases can be kept at bay by the use of clean and fresh water, breathing clean air and consuming fresh food. Likewise, a balance should be maintained between the mind and the body so that the metabolic process can take place easily and the body waste evacuated. Unani medicine also believes that all life forms have originated from the sea.

In Unani medicine, herbs are used in many different systems in different ways. However the ultimate objective of their use is that they should interact directly with our body chemistry. They may be used in various forms like food, medicine, cosmetics or perfumes. But in all cases their active herbal constituents must be observed into the body for deriving the required benefits. They circulate to influence our whole system. According to Hakeem Hashmi, a prominent Unani physician, the skill of the herbalist lies mainly in strengthening the body`s own healing mechanism instead of suppressing or disturbing it, as modern medicine tends to do.

According to the Unani discipline as it stands today, the human body is composed of 7 natural and basic components called `Umoor e Tabaiyah` which are responsible for maintenance of health. These are :

• Arkan (Elements)
• Mizaj (Temperament)
• Akhlaat (Humors)
• Aaza (Organs)
• Arwah (Vital forces or Neuro)
• Quwa (Faculties)
• Afaal (Functions)

WHAT IS HIV & AIDS

WHAT IS HIV & AIDS

HIV has two major categories: HIV-1 and HIV-2. HIV-1, which currently has about 10 subtypes, is most common worldwide and the only form found in the US. HIV-2 is less virulent and though currently confined to West Africa—it's spreading.

The Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) basically provokes an infection, which destroys the body's immune system. And AIDS or Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome is the advanced stage of this disease, when the immune system becomes irreparably damaged, engendering multiple infections and cancers. A person is considered HIV positive when s/he tests positive for any of the 26 diseases (Kaposi's sarcoma, lymphoma, pulmonary tuberculosis, recurrent pneumonia within a 12-month period, wasting syndrome and other indicators) that can easily invade the body during our immune system's non-functionality.

On invading the body, the virus specifically attacks T-cells. A core part of the human defense system, they mobilize other cells to seek and destroy contagious foreign elements besides leading the immune system's fight against infections. T-cells are targeted because the AIDS virus parasitizes the CD4 molecules on their surface.

With a protective outer shell of proteins and glyco-proteins, the AIDS virus contains genetic information on the inside. Although substantially smaller than the host T-cells—the virus reproduces by sponging off the host's cellular resources! Our body fights back by producing up to two billion new T-cells to replace the infected ones, stabilizing the T-cell count temporarily. Yet from day one, the T-cells fight a losing battle.

ACHES AND PAIN

ACHES AND PAIN

There are probably more herb and folk remedies dedicated to the easement of aches and pains than any other condition. And each new generation of herbalists manages to add a number of their own original remedies to the list. Being born a mammal guarantees that there will be no escape from pain. Most creatures suffer in silence, but we were born with a much lower threshold and the ability to voice our complaints to anyone who could ease our suffering. Into this vacuum of need stepped the first witch doctor - part healer, part primitive psychiatrist with a spiritualistic bent - and began to ply his trade.
Two terms are nearly interchangeable and pop up often in herbal reference works...anodyne and analgesic. What they both mean is: to sooth, relieve or diminish pain.

KNOW YOUR TEMPERAMENT

ASTHMA

ASTHMA

A serious condition which needs to be under the direction of a medical professional. Of interest is the increasing percentage of this condition in children especially, but in the overall population as well. Without a doubt those currently alive in this country have been exposed to more chemical pollutants than at any other time in history. From home heating fuels with "additives" unknown to most of us, to plastics with a veritable soup of chemical ingredients, to electro-magnetic radiation and - I could type all day just running these items down. However, I have noticed that when we switched to catalytic converters with their sulphur emissions, this sudden rise in respiratory difficulties began in earnest. It's an area of inquiry rarely discussed in the media, but I believe it bears serious investigation. We may have substituted lead in the air for an even more threatening problem.
